Hi There,
I am currently undertaking a University Thesis on OBDii, EOBD and particularly need to focus on the main negative issue/issues that the standards have.

As I see it;

- One of the main issues people would have with it is that a certain code for one vehicle can have different meanings for another vehicle, meaning you are forced to purchase different diagnostic tools for each manufacturer.

- Another issue I have heard of would be the different types of interfaces required for comunicationg with vehicles. I.E. one cable will not do all vehicles as not only do different manufacturers use different codes but also different pin configurations in their cable interfaces.

Dongle . as far as i understand all post 96 vehicles or certainly post 99 world wide use same generic codes with some reserved for specific use by manufacturers. So code p0123 is same for all vehicles motorcycles included and snow mobiles i think. the data link is the same also. what is different is software to access vehicle specific systems.
