Ford Windstar 1997 3.8 auto transmission van starts and runs very well. Van has 198,000 miles Last tune up 98,000 miles (plugs, filter etc.) Oil changed every 3500 miles Will not pass emmisions due to PO430 Cat system efficency below threshold bank 2 PO153 02 circut slow response Bank 2 sensor 1 all indications point to a new cat which on this van is about $550.00. The details LTFT B1 = 14% LTFT B2 = 14% O2SB1 S1 (V) RANGE FROM .040-.810 02SB1 S2 (V) RANGE FROM .040-.840
02SB2 S1 (V) RANGE FROM .070-.855 02SB2 S2 (v) RANGE FROM .070 -.800
I have changed the 02 sensor after the cat. on bank 2 It did not help Based on what I have read the ranges appear to be with in limits on the above data. my next thought was to unplug all 4 02 sensors and swap plugs from Bank 1 to Bank 2 to see if the error goes to Bank 1. If so then maybe the cat is really bad.
Before condemning the cat, perform a tune-up (it's due anyways) and replace the upstream O2 sensor on Bank 2 (it's likely worn out with those miles and won't pass the smog test).
Get the parts from the dealer as aftermarket parts can be problematic.
Clear the codes and see if the cat code returns...IF it does, get a GOOD QUALITY cat.
