Hi all,

I have a 96' Windstar 3.8L van and last week it through a 302 #2 cylinder misfire. As it has 78,000 miles on it, I changed the plugs/wires and still have the misfire. I next took off the upper intake manifold and cleaned out the EGR ports, #5,6 & 2 were badly clogged. I thought I was home free. Still have the misfire. As the van is a real bastard to work on, #1,2,3 are up against the firewall, I'll have to take the upper plastic cowling off I guess in order to switch fuel injecters to see if the misfire moves, then I'll have to buy a noid light I guess. I'm praying it's not the PCM because I have this feeling it'll cost me an arm and a leg. Am I on the right track here, though? Thanks in advance.

Have you verified that you have good fuel pressure/volume, good spark and that #2 cylinder is indeed missing? Sometimes a misfire code on one cylinder doesn't make that cylinder the culprit. Verify that #2 isn't firing by unplugging the injector while it its running and noting if there is any difference in RPM. Also use a spark tester in line with #2 between the wire and the plug to see if you are getting a good spark.

I'm having the same issue on a 95 Windstar. I've replaced plugs, wires, and coil. I did find that there was barely a spark on #2 before I changed the coil. It's not missing now but still getting the same code. Could it be the injector or is there another issue?
