I recently took my 2001 Suburban into a dealer to have a Manufacturer recall notice taken care of. The service required the removal of the gas tank to replace the fuel pump wiring harness.

After the work was completed I got a "service engine soon" light as I left the car dealer repair shop. The OBD2 code was P1153 "HO2S Cross Counts Bank 2 Sensor 1 Too Few". When I returned my vehicle to the service department, I was told that my vehicle had a vacuum leak and required a new engine intake manifold gasket.

I'm sure the problem is directly related to the work they performed as my vehicle only has 29000 miles and I not had any problems since I bought the vehicle new. I'm sure my engine manifold gasket is not the problem, and the dealer is just trying to cover their error.

Could it be possible that they left the evaporator canistor vent hose unplugged, or is it possible that when they drained the gas tank to remove it that they may have refilled it with contaminated gasoline?

I'm going back to the dealer tomorrow morning and I'd appreciate any immediate feedback or suggestions.

Before blaming the dealership, maybe take a look to see if it's really a intake gasket. Remove both the PCV valve and the breather hose and plug both fittings at the Valve Covers with your fingers. If you feel a vacuum, you have a intake leak.

If you can read scan tool information, there will most likely be a LTFT issue. If LTFT is okay, it's a matter of looking at the O2 sensor and verifying that it is indeed cycling slowly. Swapping it to the other bank would verify a defective sensor as the code (or more properly- the O2 waveform/scan tool data shows the slow sensor is now on the other bank.

A vacuum leak that isn't the lower intake should not cause a single bank code, but should be a problem that effects both banks. A lower intake leak can cause a single bank problem. A the intake leak is pretty common.

Oh yeah, I don't work at a dealership....
