GOT THE CODE FROM A CODE READER. HAVENT GONE TO THE DEALER TO FIND OUT I GOTTA PAY OVER $1000+
ANYONE WITH HELP LET ME KNOW.
ONE CODE IS P0420 BANK 1

You are going to have to get the O2 sensors monitored by a scanner or oscilloscope, but prior to the test drive that you will be paying for you need to arrive at the shop after driving it pretty hard, to get the cat good and hot, it has to 'light off' to work.

If you are sure its good and hot then plug in the scanner and go for another test run, if the aft O2 sensor is pretty much following the front O2 sensor then you have a bad cat and spend the big bucks.

At least make sure both O2 sensors are moving from rich to lean at some point, if they are then for the most part they are good, but remember the aft one should not continuosly follow the front sensor, there are more conclusive tests for the O2 sensors and more tests for the cat also such as inlet temp vs outlet temp right after your hard run too.

The catalysts are covered under a 8/80K warranty. Looks like you fit the bill. It will likely be cheaper to have the dealer look at it and repair than you to replace the catalytic converters yourself.

Hi,

Toyota has TSB (M.I.L. "ON" P0420,P0430) for above RAV4.

DTC P0420 (Bank 1 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold) and/or DTC P0430
(Bank 2 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold). The Engine Control Module (ECM)
calibration has been revised to correct this condition..."
E.g. PREVIOUS CALIBRATION ID NUMBER=34207000
NEW CALIBRATION ID NUMBER=34207200 (for 2WD, AT).

I wouldn't let them get away with this, They reprogram the PCM to allow for more degradation of the cats before turning on the light. This gets it past the warranty period and you have to buy the new cats.
Any time they do this you'll end up with a cat code in a year or two and then you'll be buying the cats.
How come the lights never came on before all those miles? The only reason the light is coming on now is because the cats are degrading.

Hi,
I not know is Cat. Converter of it RAV good or bad...
But I know if MIL is ON with these DTCs need check:
1.Current calibration ID (aka "CAL") on Authorized Modifications Label to the underside of the engine hood or by ScanTools (e.g. http://alflash.narod.ru/PCae/Vin.gif )
2.Freeze Frame
3.Output Voltage of Downstream O2 Sensor (aka B1S2) at Idle, Accelration and Deceleration (e.g. for good converter http://alflash.narod.ru/PCae/Catal.gif )
4.Voltage of Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor(s) (aka B1S1) http://alflash.narod.ru/Learn/sens8.gif and others PIDs of this Wide Range AFR sensor
Take a look Description for Diagnostic DTC P0420/P0430 in http://alflash.narod.ru/Learn/cat.pdf
For example, the Images "Scope B1S2" (for good Cat.) and "Scope B2S2" = for bad Cat. (p.7)
